| This is the Web site of the Central London Branch of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) |
The CWU is the Trade Union representing over 250,000 people within the Telecommunications, IT and Postal Industries in UK.
|
The purpose of this site is to
give our members, and other interested parties, the latest
information on negotiations between the Union and the telecoms
Industry on issues that affect them. Also bring them news of
other issues that are occurring in the wider trade union and
labour movements. Links to some external sites that may be of interest can be
found on our links page. |
Our Branch of
the Union represents over 2,500 members
working for telecom and related companies mostly in the Central London area with some specialist groups
based further afield. Most of our Branch
membership work for BT, however a growing number work for other Telecoms
companies. The Branch was formed as a merger
of the former Thames Central Branch and City Of London Engineering Branch. Each
of these were formed in previous mergers of older branches across Central
London.
We also organise in COLT (City of London Telecom). In a landmark decision for COLT employees the central arbitration committee granted union recognition to the network operation team in Powergate in 2006. For more information about what
the CWU can do for or if you are not sure which branch you are in
